(Eagle News)—“An incorrigible rabble-rouser and a perennial whiner.”
This was how Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo described Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after he lashed out anew at the Duterte administration following the issuance of a warrant of arrest against him for libel.
“Instead of facing this squarely, however, the Senator from Bicol ranted and released a fiery statement before the media, attacking the administration as his usual style,” Panelo said.
According to Panelo, Trillanes was “certainly out of his wits,” a “false accuser who, when hailed to court, cries like a baby reminiscent of staging a coup and surrenders instantly even without a gun being fired from the government forces.”
He said “instead of employing squid tactics and smearing the Administration, he should focus on the legal remedies available to him.”
“His being a Senator can not excuse him from prosecution from those he has wronged,” Panelo said.
Earlier, Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 54 Judge Melinda Alconcel-Dayanghirang ordered Trillanes arrested for libel based on a complaint filed by presidential son Paolo Duterte against the senator.
The libel complaint stems from Trillanes’ allegations the former Davao vice mayor was engaged in smuggling activities and had extorted from Uber and other firms.
Alconcel-Dayanghirang set bail for Trillanes’ temporary liberty at P24,000
Trillanes said he would post bail on Monday but lashed out at the administration, noting what he said was its double-standard of justice.
