Is replaced by grandson Matthew Manotoc
(Eagle News)–Imelda Marcos has withdrawn her candidacy for Ilocos Norte governor after she was convicted of graft.
Marcos was replaced by her grandson, Matthew Marcos Manotoc, the son of her eldest daughter Imee Marcos.
Manotoc, who made the announcement on Facebook, is currently a senior provincial board member.
He previously ran for vice governor of the province.
Marcos was convicted of seven counts of graft stemming from her alleged creation of Swiss foundations while she was a member of the government of then-President Ferdinand Marcos where her family allegedly had pecuniary interests.
She is currently out on bail and has expressed her intent to appeal the conviction before the Supreme Court.
