Palace: It’s up to Commission on Appointments to vet Honasan for DICT chief post

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday, Nov. 22, said it was up to the Commission on Appointments to determine the fate of Senator Gregorio Honasan, who has been nominated as the next secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.

“There will be vetting there. There will be hearing and he will have to respond to questions on his competence,” Panelo said.

Panelo made the comment when asked if Honasan had the qualifications to be the new DICT secretary.

According to Section 11 of the Department of Information and Communications Technology Act of 2015, no person shall be appointed secretary, undersecretary or assistant secretary unless he or she has at least seven years of “competence and expertise” in any of the following: information and communications technology, information technology service management, information security management, cybersecurity, data privacy. e-commerce, or human capital development in the ICT sector.

“It’s not for us to decide on that,” Panelo said.
