(Eagle News) — The Department of National Defense will defer to the decision of the Supreme Court on the petition filed by Senator Antonio Trillanes against Proclamation No. 572.
” The DND respects the judicial process,” the DND said in a statement issued a day after Trillanes filed a petition or certiorari, prohibition and injunction with a prayer for the issuance of a temporary restraining order on the proclamation that declared his amnesty void ab initio.
In making the declaration, the proclamation had cited Trillanes’ alleged failure to file an official application for the same, and a certification from the Armed Forces of the Philippines saying a copy of the application was not available.
It also said Trillanes failed to make an express admission of guilt for the commission of the crimes related to the Oakwood mutiny and the Peninsula Manila siege in 2003 and 2007, respectively.
Trillanes has denied these allegations, saying he complied with the requirements for the amnesty.
