Duterte laments criticisms despite progress; “The most problematic” are Filipinos themselves, he says

(Eagle News)–The “most problematic” are Filipinos themselves.

President Rodrigo Duterte had this to say on Tuesday, Sept. 4, as he lamented how fellow Filipinos themselves criticized him for the way he governed the country.

He said this was despite the progress in the war on drugs and in dealing with the communist and Moro rebel insurgencies.

“It’s always wrong. And so we will just have to navigate where democracy allows us a space to work and produce results,” he said in a speech in Jerusalem.

The President is on a four-day visit to Israel.

He noted that while the rich were “not his enemies,” they were “the ones who are almost offended by my behavior.”

For instance, he said “They say that, ‘you know this Duterte is not a statesman. He should not be going to anywhere, he will put us to shame. He talks like a gangster and he curses everybody.'”

“Correct. Because I never studied to be a statesman, there’s no course of a statesman,” Duterte explained.

The President has a good net satisfaction rating, based on a Social Weather Station survey in June.

His government, on the other hand, obtained a “very good” rating based on the survey.
