Australia to implement stricter visa rules for foreign skilled workers

(Eagle News) – The Australia government will implement stricter visa requirements for skilled workers from overseas.

According to Australian Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull, they will remove the visa program for skilled workers in the restaurant, information and medical industries because of criticisms that it is affecting the employment of native Australians.

Because of this, the Australian embassy has decided to also increase visa fees for foreign workers. Overseas workers are also required to be more proficient in English. An applicant must undergo a criminal background check, and will also be subjected to labor market testing.

Under the new rule, recruiters and companies should advertise the vacant position in a newspaper for four months. If they could not find an eligible Australian for the job post, the employers should have to declare it to the Australian government before sponsoring or hiring any foreign worker.
