Philippine Government-NDF 3rd round of peace talks formally ends

QEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The third round of peace talks between the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front – which was held in Rome, Italy – formally ends.

Both sides signed the supplemental guidelines which provided for the monitoring of human rights violations. This means that the comprehensive agreement on respect of human rights and international humanitarian law — the first of the four substantive agenda of the peace talks — will be implemented.

The next round of the peace talks will be held in April.

Meanwhile, a tweet from GMA News’ Raffy Tima said that National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) senior political consultant Jose Maria Sison was hospitalized in Rome, Italy, causing him to miss the third round, the closing ceremony of the peace-talks.

“NDF Founding Chair Jose Ma. Sison hospitalized in Rome, misses the closing ceremony of the 3rd round. RNG says he is recovering well,” the reporter tweeted.

Sison is also the founding chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
