QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Monday (January 23) asked the public to give Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa a second chance to fix the problems being faced by the PNP.
He also clarified that his previous call for Dela Rosa to resign because of the controversial kidnap-slay of Korean businessman Jee Ick-Joo was not a personal matter.
It should be noted that Alvarez attended the belated birthday celebration of Dela Rosa in Camp Crame on Sunday where President Duterte was also present. There, the President announced that he would like Dela Rosa to stay as the PNP chief because he still has his full trust and confidence.
“I would just like to clarify that there is a separation between our friendship and work. I was invited by Gen. Bato in his birthday party, so I went there as his friend,” Alvarez said.
“I have said my piece and I would have to agree with those who have suggested to give the Chief PNP a chance to fix the problems that the PNP is currently facing right now,” Alvarez said.
Alvarez made a call for Dela Rosa’s resignation after reports that Korean businessman Jee Ick-Joo was killed inside the PNP headquarters.
