(Eagle News)–A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Cagayan on Thursday, Jan. 24.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, which was tectonic in origin, hit 27 kilometers northwest of Calayan at 4:34 p.m.
An intensity IV was registered in Laoag City; Bacarra, Pasuquin, and Vintar, Ilocos Norte; while an intensity III was felt in Cervantes, and Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
The following instrumental intensities were also recorded: Intensity IV in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Intensity III in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Intensity II in Peñablanca, Cagayan; and Intensity I in Vigan.
No damage was reported so far but Phivolcs said there could be aftershocks.
