5.0-magnitude quake hits Tayum, Abra

(Eagle News) — A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck Abra early Thursday, July 28.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake, which hit at 4:02 a.m., is an aftershock of the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit the area the day before.

The 5.0-magnitude earthquake’s epicenter was 12 kilometers southwest of Tayum.

The depth of focus was 17 kilometers.

Intensity IV – Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Intensity III – Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Tabuk, Kalinga
Intensity II – Gonzaga, Penablanca, Cagayan; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
Intensity I – Baguio City, Benguet; Claveria, Cagayan

Aftershocks are still expected.

No damage to property is expected, PHIVOLCS said.

The 7.0-magnitude earthquake left at least four people dead and dozens injured.
