37-year-old architect dies after falling into elevator shaft in QC building

(Eagle News)—A 37-year-old architect died after he fell into an elevator shaft in a building in Cubao, Quezon City on Saturday, March 2.

Authorities identified the man who fell down the elevator shaft in Cyberpark 1 as architect Michael Alfonso.

In a statement, Cyberpark 1 said two men managed to open “an emergency service door of a high-zone elevator shaft.”

Alfonso, according to media reports, stepped inside thinking it was a bathroom.

According to the building management, the incident happened “past operating hours,” when the area was dark and most of the lessees in the place had gone.

Paramedics arrived immediately to the scene and Alfonso was taken to the hospital, where he died, Cyberpark 1 said.

Cyberpark 1 said it was taking the “highly unusual incident” very seriously, and was conducting its own Investigation.

It said it was also cooperating with the police in its probe.

“The building management extends its deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and will do its best to provide the necessary assistance in their time of grief,” Cyberpark 1 said.
