(Eagle News)–Two of the four suspects arrested by police in connection with the slay of Batuan, Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III work for Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Sandra Cam, Yuson’s wife alleged on Thursday, Oct. 10.

According to Lalaine, who gave a press conference a day after her husband was killed, the man wearing a white sleeveless shirt based on pictures from the Manila Police District in particular was Cam’s driver.

She said at least one was also a policeman.

“Sa dalawa po maidentify po namin. Yung pulis hindi pa po pero may information kami Masbate Police,” she said.

She said she was also convinced there was a police cover-up or a switching of suspects, which she said would explain why the policemen from the Manila Police District Station 5 were hiding the arrested suspects and not presenting them.

“Ikaw na yung lumalapit para maidentify kung sila talaga salarin pero ayaw kaming pasingitin man lang..maghintay ..para kaming aso..sunud ng sunod. Kinakatok na namin opisina.. pero ayaw dahil nasa imbestigasyon..parang may gag order sa mga pulis. Walang nagsasalita,” she said.

She also questioned what she said was the police’s plan to file only charges of illegal possession of firearms and drugs against the suspects, as she called on President Rodrigo Duterte to help them attain justice.

Motive

According to Lalaine, who said she could have been killed with her husband had she not left for Masbate,  politics was the motive for the killing of her husband.

She noted that Cam’s son Marco Martin, like her and the victim’s son Charmax Jan, both ran for the position of mayor of Batuan in the May elections.

Charmax Jan was declared the winner, but he is reportedly at large because he has a pending warrant of arrest for illegal possession of firearms in connection with a February raid conducted in his place in Batuan that yielded high-caliber firearms.

But according to Lalaine, the grenade was planted by policemen at the behest of Cam.

Cam denial

Cam, however, has denied the allegations.

“I have nothing to do with the ambush,” she said.

“It is so unfair that our family is being dragged into this, we’ve moved on from that election,” she added.

The vice mayor was shot as he was eating breakfast in Sampaloc, Manila on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Two of his companions were also injured but police said they were already in stable condition. Moira Encina
