2 high-tech signal jammers to be installed at NBP’s Building 14

(Eagle News)– Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Sunday (September 25) revealed that two more advanced phone signal jammers will be installed next week at the New Bilibid Prison’s (NBP) Building 14, where high-profile inmates are inhibited.

According to Aguirre, the signal jammers can block 3G and LTE-type mobile phones.

“Ang cost nito ay P2 million each. This is only for Building 14,” he said.
Aguirre informed there was no government money involved in the purchase of the equipment, saying that the jammers were donated by a “Good Samaritan”.
The justice secretary admitted that despite the raids conducted, inmates are still able to smuggle mobile phones inside the compound.
Aguirre said that convicted drug lords were able to continue their transactions through mobile phones.
The secretary demanded for more signal jammers, saying that they would like to install more of the jammers at the whole NBP maximum security compound.
The House of Representatives along with the Department of Justice (DOJ) are currently investigating the alleged proliferation of narcotics inside the national penitentiary during the time of Senator Leila De Lima as justice secretary.
The next House hearing is scheduled in October 5.
