11 kilos of shabu recovered by gov’t forces from formerly Maute-controlled areas in Marawi

(Eagle News) – About 11 kilos of suspected were recovered in formerly Maute-controlled areas by government forces in Marawi City, with an estimated amount of P100 million.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said the bags of shabu were seized while the military was undertaking clearing operations.

Padilla said that the Islamist terrorists were apparently using illegal drugs to help them keep awake at night. The illegal drugs were also allegedly being used by the extremists so that they would not feel tired.

Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr. said the recovered shabu was the “largest illegal drug haul so far” in the ongoing clashes between the military and the Maute group.

He said the Maute group and the Abu Sayyaf Group whose members have banded together in Marawi were already violating the teachings of Islam.

“This strengthens our findings that these terrorists are using illegal drugs which according to Muslim religious leaders is Haram. These Maute and ASG terrorists are not Muslims. They have violated every tenets of the teachings in the Holy Quran,” he said.
