10 Abu Sayyaf bandits killed in Sulu clash anew

(Eagle News)– Ten Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members were killed during a clash with government troops in Patikul, Sulu over the weekend, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said Monday (December 12).

Troops of the 35th Infantry Battalion under the Joint Task Force Sulu led by Lt. Col. Vladimir Lenos Villanueva were conducting military operations when they encountered at least 150 ASG bandits in the area.

The heavy firefight also hurt 21 soldiers,19 of which were injured due to shrapnel wounds.

On the other hand, six Abu Sayyaf members were wounded as confirmed by intelligence units and civilians in the area.

Tan said the terrorists were led by their leader, Radullan Sahiron, and sub-leaders Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan, Yasser Igasan, and Mujer Yadah.

Fire support and close air support were provided to the troops. Adjacent units also conducted blocking and pursuit operations as casualties were immediately brought to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Hospital.

Two soldiers who needed additional medical attention were airlifted to Camp Navarro General Hospital in Zamboanga City.
