Solano: I lied to police because a frat member told me to do so

(Eagle News) — John Paul Solano, a primary suspect in the death of Horacio Castillo III, said on Monday that he initially lied to the police about where he found the hazing victim’s body because a fraternity member told him to do so.

Solano, who spoke  before the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs, declined, however, to say who exactly told him to do this at that time.

He said he would just include the name of the person in his affidavit.

Solano reiterated his account that he was only called over the phone by an Aegis Juris fraternity member while he was lying on his bed on Saturday morning, around 6 to 630 am.

He declined to say who this was, saying he would include the name in his affidavit.

He said, however, that the caller was a fraternity member.

“They just said na pumunta raw ako sa fraternity library,” he said.

He said he asked why he had to go, and they just said “Basta.”

He said he declined to go, saying he,a registered medical technologist, had to work in his father’s clinic every Saturday and Sunday.

But after “30 to 40 minutes,” he said “they called me again and they insisted.”

“They just told me that someone collapsed,” he said.

He said he left around 9 am, and upon arrival at the fraternity library in Sampaloc, Manila, he saw someone lying on the floor.

“At first look, he looked unconscious lang. The first thing I checked were his pupils and pulse. When I checked his pulse, I didn’t hear any, so I administered CPR,” he said.

He said he took Castillo, whom he did not know, to the Chinese General Hospital.

At that time, he said he was with some fraternity members.

They used three vehicles, a red Strada, a black Fortuner and his motorcycle.

Upon arrival, he said they parked in the parking lot.

A frat member from the Fortuner told him to take Castillo to the emergency room.

He said he asked “Why me?”

But the frat member insisted, so he did what he was told.
