Sison slams Duterte for HK visit; calls Red October plot a “fairytale”

(Eagle News)—The Communist Party of the Philippines lashed out at President Rodrigo Duterte for what he said was the chief executive’s “callous show of affluence” when he went on a trip to Hong Kong.

In a statement, Jose Maria Sison, CPP founder, said Duterte showed “cruel indifference to the millions upon millions of Filipinos who are suffering from  skyrocketing prices of rice and fuel, low wages, widespread joblessness and general deterioration of social conditions.”

“With not enough money to spend for their food, transportation, electricity and other basic expenses, the workers, peasants  and other toiling sectors demand Duterte to reveal how much he spent for traveling andtravelong and shopping?” Sison said.

Sison also noted the military’s Red October plot “fairytale” was a “flop in terms of destabilizing his regime.”

The Palace said Duterte’s visit to Hong Kong was unexpected, but noted the chief executive deserved a break.

Duterte’s visit came after he announced he had had tests done at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center.

Then-Palace spokesperson Harry Roque said the tests were a followup to previous tests that showed there was a possible growth in President Duterte’s digestive tract.
