Senator Recto urges gov’t to generate hype around Boracay reopening after 6-month closure

(Eagle News)–Senator Ralph Recto on Thursday, April 12, urged the government to generate hype around Boracay’s reopening after its six-month rehabilitation.

In a statement, Recto said the closure, which he described as a “one step backward, two steps forward” tactic, should be promoted as a needed “beauty rest.”

He said the promotional campaign could include memes, teasers, countdowns, “all the bells and whistles,” and  YouTube posts.

He said for the promotional campaign, the government could use the Department of Tourism’s P1.15-billion advertising budget for 2018.

“Tap the social media influencers. At kung sinuman ang mga commanders ng troll armies, masabihan sila na tumulong din,” he said.

“Makeovers are regular occurrences in the hospitality sector. When these facilities re-open, they attract more customers who are curious about the improvements or new attractions. In the end, the income lost during the renovation is immediately recouped,” he added.

Only recently, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the six-month closure of Boracay.

The closure begins on April 26.
