Over 1,000 policemen are being monitored by the Philippine National Police’s Counter-Intelligence Task Force for their alleged involvement in illegal activities.

The 1535 are under surveillance based on complaints given via the 8888 complaint hotline, Senior Supt. .Jose Chikito Malayo, CITF chief, said.

Of the figure, he said 358 were officials, while the rest were non-commissioned officers.

Among the officials being monitored was a one-star general who was reported to be accepting money from illegal gambling dens twice.

Malayo said that despite this information, since the salary of policemen was increased, the number of complaints received by the CITF has decreased.

From the 538 complaints received in February 2017, Malayo said the task force only received eight complaints this month.
