Palace vouches for integrity of narco-list; says list based on intel gathered by foreign gov’ts via wiretapping

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Tuesday, March 5, vouched for the integrity of the government’s narco-list, saying foreign governments had supplied the Philippines with intel through wiretapping.

“Ang magagaling diyan Israel, magaling diyan America, Russia, China….Kung tayo lang, eh wala, kopong-kopong pa yata iyong mga instrumento natin,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

According to Panelo, while the Anti-Wiretapping Law considers wiretapping an illegal act without the authorization by a court, no law says the giving of wiretapped information was illegal.

” In fact, we should be thankful na we are being provided with information relative to criminal activities in this country,” Panelo, also the presidential legal counsel, said.

Earlier, Panelo said the narco-list may be released by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año next week.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Aaron Aquino said over 60 people included in the list were gunning for reelection in the upcoming elections.
