Malacanang bares new Duterte cabinet appointments

(Eagle News) – On the first day of President Duterte in Malacanang, Malacanang announced the President’s new cabinet appointments.

They include former Postmaster General and former National Food Authority Administrator Angelito Banayo who was designated as managing director and resident representative of the  Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) by Duterte.

The President also chose another militant and former pary-list representative, Liza Maza, to head the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC).

Information and technology expert Rodolfo Salalima was designated as the head of the new Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT).   Salalima was the former chief legal counsel and senior vice-presiden for corporate and regulatory affairs of Globe Telecommunications in 2008.

Maza, once headed the militant women’s group, the Gabriela organization, before she became a party-list representative.

Maza has authored 18 bills and 24 resolutions as a Bayan Muna representative to the 12th Congress. As a representative of Gabriela Women’s Party, she has authored 53 bills and 120 resolutions at the 13th and 14th Congress. Among the bills she authored that were passed into law include the Rent Control Act of 2009 (RA 9653), The Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 (RA 9344), Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710), Philippine Nursing Act (RA 9173), Anti-Torture Law (RA 9745) and the Anti-Violence in Women and Children Act (RA 9262), which she co-authored.  She also authored Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003
