(Eagle News)–Former Senate President Koko Pimentel III urged Filipinos to do their part in nation-building by selecting “good leaders,” among others.
“Ultimately, bringing our country from the Third World to the First World requires constant effort on our part to (do this), to always put the interests of the country first, and eternal vigilance in holding our leaders accountable for their actions,” he said.
He noted that there were also “bold solutions available” such as federalism.
“We cannot falter in securing the gains we have made since our independence. Filipinos must use their political rights to empower their countrymen, especially the poor and needy,” he said.
Pimentel stepped down as Senate President after several of his colleagues signed a resolution electing Tito Sotto as their new leader.
Senator Gringo Honasan had said the idea was to ensure continuity given Pimentel’s plans to run for reelection in 2019.
