Sandiganbayan junks Napoles’ jail transfer bid

(Eagle News)– The Sandiganbayan First Division on Monday (May 15) denied the request of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles to be transferred to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention center, and instead ordered her to be moved to Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

In an open court hearing, the First Division granted the prosecution’s motion to have Napoles detained at Camp Bagong Diwa, saying there was no evidence that Napoles will face threats in a regular jail.

The Court of Appeals (CA) on May 5 ordered Napoles’s immediate release from the Correctional Institute for Women after acquitting her for the illegal detention of former aide and relative Benhur Luy.

Napoles, however, will stay detained as she still faces plunder charges before the Sandiganbayan.
