Faeldon says he will resign if son is found to have links to illegal drugs

(Eagle News)—Bureau of Corrections Chief Nicanor Faeldon on Friday, Dec. 14, vowed to resign if his son was proven to have links to illegal drugs.

“What I can assure everybody is if my son is involved in any way, kahit user lang, I will… hunt him down. Ako na ang paparusa diyan,” he added in a television interview, referring to Nicanor Faeldon Jr.

The younger Faeldon was nabbed in a suspected drug den in Naga earlier in the day.

But according to Faeldon, he believed the real suspect was actually the father of his son’s girlfriend.

“They were staying in that house so my son was also invited (to the police station for),” he said.

In a statement, Department of Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said the elder Faeldon has offered  to go on leave while the matter was under investigation.

But he said “the (DOJ) will have to study the matter.”

He noted, however, that Faeldon has “just been recently appointed, and the independence and integrity of the investigation on the matter is not likely to be affected by his stay in the BuCor.”

Also nabbed from the house in Barangay Mabolo were the younger Faeldon’s girlfriend, her father and another male companion.

The authorities, who had been armed with a search warrant, found at least seven sachets of suspected shabu there.
