At least two senators call for resignation of UP regent Farolan

(Eagle News)–At least two senators have called for the resignation of University of the Philippines Board of Regents member Frederick Farolan following his Facebook post in which he joked about creating a “composite strike team” against Ateneo players.

In a statement, Senator Kiko Pangilinan said Farolan’s views expressed on social media, after all, “are totally unacceptable and a disgrace to the University of the Philippines.”

Senator Nancy Binay agreed.

“Kahit sa sports, dangal at husay pa rin ang dapat na binabandera ng UP. Kahit pa joke, it’s simply unacceptable for a UP official to make such offhand remarks that promote a culture of violence,” Binay said.

In a Facebook post, Farolan appeared to urge people to injure three Ateneo players for the second UAAP finals game between UP and the school on Wednesday.

“Sayang hindi kumpleto ang players ng Ateneo sa Wednesday. Tatlo injured. Pili na kayo kung sinu-sino mga yon,” he had said.

“Suggestion ko nga para sign of solidarity, a composite strike team of all UP frats. Tatlong players lang. Kaya na ‘yon. mwehehehe,” he added.

He has since deleted the posts, noting that they were merely made in a sarcastic tone.
