Angkas asks SC to lift TRO effectively suspending the company’s operations

(Eagle News) — Motorcycle ride-sharing application Angkas has asked the Supreme Court to lift its temporary restraining order on a local court’s directive stopping the government from interfering in its operations.

In its motion filed recently, Angkas argued there was no law regulating transport network companies.

This means, it said, that  the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Department of Transportation do not have a right to stop its business.

Angkas also pointed out that vehicular congestion was bound to get worse during the holidays “with helpless and hapless commuters having to suffer limited options.”

“Worse, the scepter of jobs being lost by thousands of Angkas drivers looms large,” Angkas added.

On Dec. 5, the SC issued a TRO on Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Branch 213 Judge Carlos Valenzuela’s order stopping the LTFRB and the DOTr from interfering in Angkas’ operations.

The TRO stems from a petition for certiorari filed by the LTFRB and the DOTr following their legal defeat in the local court.

Following the TRO, the DOTr ordered the arrest of Angkas operators and drivers plying the roads, and the impounding of the vehicles.
