LUCENA, Quezon (Eagle News) — A two-month old baby boy died in a landslide here in Lucena City in Quezon province.

Two-month old Renzo Abas was killed when their house gave in because of a landslide around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12 here in Purok, Munting Paraiso, Bgy 1. Their house was near the Mount Carmel Diocesan Hospital.

Residents said that they noticed the ground was getting unstable, and that the layer of soil used to support embankment of the nearby hospital giving way early that morning because of the heavy rains brought by tropical depression Maring.

Ayon sa mga residente ng nasabing lugar, umaga pa lamang kanina nang mapansin nila ang unti-unting paglambot ng lupa na sumusoporta sa riprap na pader ng katabing ospital. At ilang oras lamang ang lumipas ay tuluyan nang gumuho ang lupa at direktang naapektuhan ang bahay ng pamilya Abas. Agad naman rumisponde ang opisyal ng barangay,” said the report of Eagle News Service correspondent in Lucena City, Russel Capili.

The victim’s father was hospitalized due to injuries he sustained because of the landslide.

The area that gave way and affected Renzo’s house was supposedly to be used as a parking lot of the hospital.
