NFA guarantees adequate rice supply
QUEZON City, Philippines, May 18 (Eagle News) — The National Food Authority (NFA) assured the public that there will be an ample supply of rice during the lean months of July to September. Higher rice harvest this year
MANILA, Philippines – For the first quarter of the year, the Philippines recorded an additional 100, 000 metric tons of rice harvested compared to a similar period last year. Still, said additional harvest did not manage to reach government target. Authorities estimated that the following rice harvests for this year will be low due to the El Niño phenomenon. According to the National Statistics Office, the price of well-milled rice continues to climb despite government efforts to curtail it.
Rice prices less two pesos
The price of rice in the market goes down by two pesos per kilo by retailers in Metro Manila due to the price cut implemented by the new NFA administrator.
Additional 2 pesos for the price of rice
The price of rice recorded an additional 2 pesos per kilo due to a weak harvest brought about by the heat, according to the NFA.
NFA Awards Rice Import To Vietnam
The National Food Authority said on Tuesday that Vietnam emerged as the lowest bidder for the contract to supply 800,000 metric tons of rice to the Philippines this year. NFA spokesman Rex Estoperez said NFA would likely award the contract to import 800,000 metric tons of rice to Vietnam.
