NFA guarantees adequate rice supply

Higher rice harvest this year

MANILA, Philippines – For the first quarter of the year, the Philippines recorded an additional 100, 000 metric tons of rice harvested compared to a similar period last year. Still, said additional harvest did not manage to reach government target. Authorities estimated that the following rice harvests for this year will be low due to the El Niño phenomenon. NFA Awards Rice Import To Vietnam

The National Food Authority said on Tuesday that Vietnam emerged as the lowest bidder for the contract to supply 800,000 metric tons of rice to the Philippines this year. NFA spokesman Rex Estoperez said NFA would likely award the contract to import 800,000 metric tons of rice to Vietnam.
