https://youtu.be/er5DCPSTVPk (Eagle News) — Electricity bills will go up again this August because of the rise in the cost of generation charges from power sourced from Power Supply Agreements (PSA). The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said that for this month, there will be an increase of P0.0265 per kilowatt-hour this month, or from P10.1925 per kwh in July to P10.219 per kwh in August. Electricity potential answer to the mystery of ‘flying’ spiders
WASHINGTON, United States (AFP) — Cloudy with a chance of… spiders? The phenomenon of “flying” spiders gliding into the air and traveling like balloons for hundreds of miles (kilometers) has a new possible explanation: the air’s natural electric charge. Aerial spider journeys — often known as “ballooning” — have long been observed, notably by biologist Charles Darwin, who documented the spectacle in his diary in the 19th century. One closely studied hypothesis suggested that spiders […]
Global warming will make veggies harder to find: study
TAMPA, United States (AFP)—Global warming is expected to make vegetables significantly scarcer around the world, unless new growing practices and resilient crop varieties are adopted, researchers warned on Monday. By the end of this century, less water and hotter air will combine to cut average yields of vegetables — which are crucial to a healthy diet — by nearly one-third, said the report in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. A 7.2 Fahrenheit […]
Meralco to increase power rates this summer season
(Eagle News) — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) warned the public that there will be an increase in power rates this summer season due to growing electricity demand amid the heat. Wind, solar could meet 80 percent of US demand: study
MIAMI, United States (AFP) — Wind and solar power could meet 80 percent of US demand for electricity, as long as improvements are made in transmission and storage, researchers said Tuesday. Until a few years ago, these renewable energy sources were thought to be capable of supplying only about 20-30 percent of US needs, according to the report in the journal Energy and Environmental Science. Currently, the United States gets about two-thirds of its electricity […]
