QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — Around P2.7 billion are needed to rebuild the health facilities damaged by the still ongoing war in Marawi, according to Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial.
Ubial said the Marawi siege has severely affected the health sector, such that the event has gone in history as causing the highest number of evacuees.
According to latest data, around 102,000 families or 465,000 individuals have already been displaced because of the continuing armed conflict in Marawi.
Included in the P2.7 billion allocation are the government’s plans to create health stations in every barangay; a rural health center in every community with 20,000 people; of a lying-on facility and polyclinic in every community with 50,000 people; and the provision of one hospital bed for every 800 individuals.
Ubial said this was part of the government’s efforts to turn Marawi’s health system into an “ideal health system.”
