One dead, two injured in ambush on LTO enforcement team in Surigao following anti-colorum vehicles operation

LTO condemns attack

(Eagle News)–The Land  Transportation Office on Wednesday, July 17, condemned the ambush on an LTO enforcement team in Surigao City that led to the death of the team leader and caused injuries to two others.

In a statement, the Department of Transportation said LTO Caraga Regional Director Nordy Plaza is currently in Surigao City to extend assistance to the family  of team leader  Felixberto Loayon and to team members Rene Cenangote and Freddie Wabina.

Quoting a report reaching the central office, the DOTr said Loayon, Cenangote, Wabina and assistant team leader Estribo Belarmino were on board a patrol vehicle on the way back to the Surigao District Office after  conducting  an anti-colorum vehicles operation when they were attacked by unidentified men.

Two other enforcers, Rene Aquino and Paul Henry Dona, were at that time traveling  with  them but were each driving  other vehicles–the impounded vehicles— to the district office.

The anti-colorum operation had been conducted based on a complaint  lodged through the 8888 hotline.

According to the DOTr, the incident is still under probe.

“The LTO sends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Officer Loayon, and its wishes for a full recovery for the wounded enforcers,” the statement read.
