LAOAG CITY, Oct. 15 (PIA) – More Ilocanos have become financially-literate, according to a group of financial coaches conducting free seminars on money literacy.

Maria Dulce Calija, chief executive officer of the Internatonal Marketing Group, said Ilocanos have learned to invest their money instead of just keeping them in banks.

The IMG is a group of financial coaches based in Ilocos Norte which holds free seminar during weekends and special sessions on weekdays.

Among the financial topics discussed are: Pay yourself First, Rule of 72, The X-Curve and the Six Steps to financial security.

“Instead of depositing money in commercial banks, IMG is giving number of investment options such as investing in various financial instruments and real business opportunities which is a wiser deal,” Calija said.

“Being truly rich is being financially literate,” Calija said.

Since it started recruiting in nearly three months, the group has already enlisted some 500 members and investors composed of lawyers, businessmen and local government officials.

Calija, who is an accountant, said she envisions every Ilocano to enjoy their hard-earned money in time for their retirement.

She said retirees often receive pension benefits that are just enough for medicines.

The group also recruits members to help spread the good news to people who seek to be financially literate and be financially secured.(MCA/CDG,PIA-1,Ilocos Norte)
