Mayor Mabilog, who was earlier named in drug list, claims Iloilo city now drug-free

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) – Mayor Jed Mabilog of Iloilo City announced that his city is now totally drug-free.

In an interview with Net25’s, “Sa Ganang Mamamayan,” Mabilog said that Iloilo City is now drug-free a year after he was linked to illegal drug operations in the Visayas. He also said that he is willing to cooperate with any investigation on the matter.

Mayor Mabilog said that he fully supports the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs and that there has been a vast improvement in the city’s fight against illegal drugs.

“Dito po nakikita natin ang malaking pagbabago ng lungsod ng Iloilo, kaya nga pwede nating tanungin ang mga Ilonggo lang dito sa Iloilo, na hindi na po ‘most shabulized city’ ang Iloilo because of the strict intervention and implementation of the campaign ‘war on illegal drugs’,” Mabilog said.

President Rodrigo Duterte in August last year called the province of Iloilo City as “the most shabulized” in the country – citing the large number of shabu, or crystal meth, available in the city. The President claimed then there were officials who are still giving protection to those who are involved in the illegal drug trade in the city.
