(Eagle News) — The newly rehabilitated passenger terminal building and extended runway of the Marinduque airport were inaugurated today, April 11.

In a statement, the Department of Transportation said the inaugural ceremony of the airport, which had been “left in a dismal state for years” and has halted commercial operations since 2013, was led by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.

The DOTr had allocated P9 million for the rehabilitation of the PTB.

This includes the installation of air conditioning units and the replacement of accordion walls with glass walls.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines on the other hand implemeented the P12-million concreting project of the runway.

“Ang sabi ng pangulo, ‘Art, make the Filipino life comfortable,’ and in making the Filipino life comfortable, I want the farthest regions and the farthest provinces to be connected with one another, integrated to Metro Manila,” Tugade said.

Also gracing the ceremony were Transportation Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal, Transportation Assistant Secretary for Communications Goddess Hope Libiran, Tourism Assistant Secretary Myra Abubakar and CAAP Deputy Director General for Administration Ricardo Banayat.
