(Eagle News)–Sangley airport in Cavite is expected to be operational by the end of October.

The Department of Transportation made the announcement on Saturday, Sept. 28, on the same day Transportation Secretary Art Tugade visited the area to “inspect the progress of the Sangley airport construction as well as the status of the proposed ferry terminal in the area as an option for accessibility.”

Earlier, Tugade ordered the 24/7 construction work in the area to ensure the additional facilities would meet the November deadline set by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte had said an airport in Sangley would decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

This was apart from the planned airport in Bulacan to be constructed by San Miguel Corp.

On Sept. 18, a concession agreement for the construction of the $15-billion New Manila International Airport  was signed between the DOTr and the private company.

San Miguel President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang had said the groundbreaking for the airport might take place in December.
