(Eagle News) — The Bureau of Customs has seized P9 million worth of smuggled agricultural products in Subic.
In a statement, the bureau said the shipment of 3×40 containers with fresh red onion was seized last June 14.
The shipment arrived at the Port of Subic on May 29 and had been declared as fresh yellow onions.
The shipment consigned to Gingarnion Agri Trading was later found to lack a Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Clearance (SPSIC) from the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry.
The bureau hailed the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service and the Enforcement and Security Service of the Port, together with the DA-BPI.
“The Port of Subic, under the leadership of Maritess T. Martin, will continue to strengthen its border protection measures against smuggling and customs fraud,” the bureau said.
