“Cowboy Coachman,” Vigan City’s latest attraction

VIGAN City, Ilocos Sur — Various associations of coachmen (or kutsero in Tagalog) in the city of Vigan supported the project of their city to wear a “cowboy costume.” This is for the continuing development of tourism in the said city.

The coachmen wear this costume during their trek to different heritage places like Pagburnayan, National Museum, Hidden Garden and Baluarte in Vigan City. According to the coachmen, this project will encourage many tourists to visit the so-called “Heritage City”.

Coachmen in this city are using this ‘cowboy costume’ every Friday and Sunday.

This “cowboy” concept for the uniforms of the kutseros or coachmen was supported by the municipal government and by the provincial tourism office. Because of their support, Vigan City’s coachmen or “kutseros” will not be called a “kawawang cowboy,” as popularized in a local song, officials said.

Meanwhile, the inauguration of the new marker of Vigan City next month aims to solidify Vigan as one of the seven wonders city of the world.

Local and foreign media are expected to come and witness this special occasion. (Translated by Mary Rose Faith Bonalos from a report by Eagle News correspondent Nelsan Mendoza)
