Coast Guard rescues four fishermen off Cebu waters

(Eagle News) — The Philippine Coast Guard on Sunday, Oct. 27, rescued four fishermen in distress off Cebu waters after their motorbanca capsized.

The BRP Suluan was conducting its routine patrol when it came across the four fishermen–later identified as Eric Campo, 45; Hoven Gasalatan, 33; Jonas Padillo, 28; and Jaypee Gasalatan, 21—with the submerged boat and took them aboard.

The fishermen told authorities they were on their way to Bohol from Cebu to buy fish when a they encountered a severe squall while in the middle of Cebu Strait at 5 a.m.

They were brought to Pier 1 of Aduana Wharf, where PCG personnel gave them immediate medical attention.

The fishermen have been turned over to their families.
