4.7-magnitude quake hits Borongan, Eastern Samar

(Eagle News)– A magnitude-4.7 earthquake struck Borongan City in Eastern Samar early Friday morning. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake hit  23 kilometers east of Borongan at 1:20 a.m. The earthquake, of tectonic origin, had  a depth of 20 kilometers. It was felt at Intensity IV in Borongan City.

PHIVOLCS lowers Mayon volcano alert status

  (Eagle News)—The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has lowered the alert status of Mayon volcano, following what it said was a “general decline in unrest.” In its 8 a.m. bulletin, PHIVOLCS said  the alert status was now at 2 instead of 3, considering that seismic activity has “waned,” and no new lava has been detected on the volcano’s summit crater. CAFGU member killed, another injured in Albay shooting incident

(Eagle News) – A member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) was killed, and another was wounded after they were shot at in Albay on Monday. The lone fatality was identified as Arnilo Secretario, 40. Secretario was riding a motorcycle being driven by Jonasis Bonit and was on his way to a road-widening project in Nabua, Camarines Sur when the attack in Barangay Centro Occidental, Polangui took place. Police are still investigating the incident.
