(Eagle News)–A magnitude-5.5 quake hit Davao Occidental on Saturday, May 12, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said. According to PHIVOLCS, the quake struck 15 kilometers east of Malita at 4:56 a.m. The quake—tectonic in origin— had a depth of focus of 100 kilometers. An instrumental intensity III was felt in Alabel, Sarangani and in General Santos City. According to PHIVOLCS, no damage nor aftershocks were expected.

At 4:06 a.m., a 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit 169 kilometers southeast of Sarangani. Seconds later, a 4.7-magnitude one struck 123 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos. PHIVOLCS said the quake hit 5 kilometers southwest of Libjo at 7:57 p.m. An intensity V was felt in Surigao City.
