PHIVOLCS: 6 volcanic earthquakes, 2 rockfall events recorded at Mayon in last 24 hours

(Eagle News) — Six volcanic earthquakes and two rockfall events were recorded at Mayon Volcano in the last 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said. According to PHIVOLCS, two of these earthquakes were related to “phreatic eruption events” that occurred at 8:11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, and at 6:27 a.m. today. “These phreatic events generated 500- and 300-meter high grayish ash plume from the summit before drifting southwest, respectively,” PHIVOLCS said. 3.1-magnitude quake jolts Davao Occidental

(Eagle News) — A 3.1-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Friday, March 8. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the quake struck 134 kilometers southeast of Sarangani at 8:03 a.m. The quake, which was of tectonic origin, had a depth of focus of 9 kilometers. No damage nor aftershocks were expected.  

At least 4 killed, 2 hurt in Infanta, Quezon wake shooting

(Eagle News)—At least four people were killed and others were hurt after a man fired at attendees of a wake in Quezon on Wednesday, March 7. A report said Herman Cuento; Leon Cuento; Michael Cuento; and Manuel Cuerdo died while being rushed to the hospital after they sustained injuries from the incident in Barangay Ilog, Infanta past 8 p.m. Maximo Cuento and Napoleon Miras were also hurt. 3.2-magnitude quake jolts Davao Occidental

(Eagle News)–A 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Thursday, March 7. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake struck 79 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos at 3:54 a.m. The earthquake, which was of tectonic origin, had a depth of focus of 80 kilometers. No damage nor aftershocks were expected.  

5.5-magnitude quake strikes Surigao del Sur

(Eagle News)–A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Surigao del Sur on Wednesday, March 6. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake struck 102 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan at 8:12 a.m. The quake, which was of tectonic origin,  had a depth of 14 kilometers. Intensity IV was felt in Bislig City, while an Intensity II was felt in Davao City. According to PHIVOLCS, no damage was expected. Aftershocks, however, were expected.  

Zamboanga City, 4 other towns in North Cotabato placed under state of calamity due to El Niño

(Eagle News) — Zamboanga City, and four towns of North Cotabato have been placed under a state of calamity because of the effects of El Niño, or long dry spell, that is affecting the local agricultural sector. Cessna plane crash-lands in Talavera, Nueva Ecija

Pilot, student unhurt (Eagle News)—-A Cessna plane crash-landed in a ricefield in Talavera, Nueva Ecija on Monday, March 4. Authorities said the  Cessna 172 type aircraft bearing the call sign RPC 2847 encountered an engine problem at 7:45 a.m. upon its takeoff from Lingayen, Pangasinan. Brick of suspected cocaine found along Baler shoreline

(Eagle News)–A brick of suspected cocaine was found near the shoreline of Baler in Aurora early Sunday, March 3. 4.0-magnitude earthquake jolts Davao Occidental

(Eagle News) — A 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Thursday, Feb. 28. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake hit 90 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos at 1:16 p.m. The earthquake was of tectonic origin and had a depth of focus of 52 kilometers. PHIVOLCS said no aftershocks were expected.
