3.4-magnitude earthquake hits Batanes

(Eagle News)–A 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck Batanes on Saturday, Aug. 3. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, an aftershock of the earthquakes in the province on July 27, hit 28 kilometers southeast of Itbayat at 7:55 a.m. The depth of focus was 15 kilometers. An intensity IV was felt in Itabayat. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

(Eagle News)–A 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental on Friday, Aug. 2. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 69 kilometers southeast of Sarangani at 3:22 p.m. Depth of focus was 90 kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

Construction work for Bulacan airport to begin before yearend

According to the DOTr, this was after it concluded the Swiss Challenge for the unsolicited proposal of San Miguel Holdings Corporation on Wednesday, July 31 for the construction, operation and maintenance of the airport, which is expected to be operational within four to six years from the start of construction. Negros Oriental police chief relieved over spate of slays in province

The PNP confirmed that Negros Oriental Provincial Police Director Colonel Raul Tacaca has been replaced by Police Colonel Angelito Dumangeng. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit 24 kilometers southeast of Sablayan at 9:42 a.m. Depth of focus was 15 kilometers. An instrumental intensity I was felt in Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

Batanes placed under state of calamity

(Eagle News)–Batanes has been placed under  a state of calamity. The declaration was made  after successive earthquakes hit the province  over the weekend, leading to at least nine deaths and several injured. President Rodrigo Duterte visited the province on Sunday, July 28, and ordered the construction of a P40-million clinic following the damages wrought on the hospital there.
