Cagayan gov’t targets zero casualties as it prepares for typhoon Ompong

(Eagle News) — The local government of Cagayan is now preparing for the landfall of typhoon Ompong to ensure that there will be zero casualties in the province.

According to the country’s weather bureau, PAGASA, typhoon Ompong is expected to make landfall by Saturday morning.

As part of their preparations, Governor Manuel Mamba said that as of Thursday morning, they already declared cancellations of classes in all levels for both private and public schools.

Mamba also said that they are now implementing a preemptive evacuation in several towns especially those towns near coastal areas and island towns.

The provincial government is checking schools and religious structures as possible evacuation centers.
It is also encouraging the adopt-a-neighbor system to find shelter for other evacuees to be displaced by typhoon Ompong.

Cagayan will also implement a liquor ban as precautionary measure.

Mamba said the provincial government has enough funds and food supplies for those who will be affected by the onslaught of typhoon Ompong.
