Authorities investigate “candy drugs” being sold in Davao City

(Eagle News) — The Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao is now investigating so-called “candy drugs” being sold in front of schools in Davao City.

These “candy drugs,” also known as “strawberry quick,” were being sold to students outside school premises, based on a social media post that became viral online.

Based on reports, they have different fruit flavors and different colors which unwittingly attract and deceive students.

“It also smells like strawberry and it is being handed out to kids in school yards. They are calling it strawberry meth or strawberry quick. Kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy and being rushed off to the hospital in dire condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange,” read the social media post.

PRO-Davao Spokesperson Chief Inspector Milgrace Cajes Driz said they are validating these reports.

Driz advised the public especially parents to warn their children not to eat or take any suspicious candies or food being given or sold by strangers.

“No need to panic but just be aware, this is just a reminder for all of us and let us treat this positively and pro-actively. We reminded all parents, guardians and teachers to take their full efforts to watch over their children and to monitor their activities, talk to them as often as possible,” Driz added.
