(Eagle News) – The death toll in Samar and Leyte due to continuous heavy rains has reached 16.
According to National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Spokesperson Mina Marasigan, although there is no typhoon in the country, three weather systems currently exist. These include the northeast monsoon (amihan) in North and Central Luzon, the tail-end of a cold front in the eastern part of Southern Luzon, and a low-pressure area (LPA) in the eastern side of the country that is causing rains.
Up to 12 landslide incidents and flash floods were recorded, and more than 1,800 families were evacuated in Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, and Leyte.
Meanwhile, of the 16 killed, four were from Tacloban City, four from Compostela Valley, one from Silvino Lobos, Northern Samar, one from Catarman, two from Pantar, Lanao del Norte, one from Caramoan, Camarines Sur, and three from Camarines Norte. (Eagle News Service)
