BIR official shot dead in QC

(Eagle News) — A Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) official was shot dead by a motorcycle rider in Quezon City Wednesday morning, based on a closed-circuit television footage that policemen had obtained.

The victim was identified as Albert Enriquez, chief of the tax assessment section of the BIR District Office (RDO) No. 28 which covers the Novaliches area.

Based on the CCTV footage obtained by the police, Enriquez had just alighted from his white sport utility vehicle which he had parked in front of an apartelle just meters away from the BIR regional district office no. 28, when he was shot.

Two men aboard a motorcycle were seen waiting for him when he parked his car. The backrider of the motorcycle approached Enriquez just as he was opening his car’s backdoor to get his office uniform. He was shot at close range.

When police arrived at the scene, Enriquez’s lifeless body was found near his uniform.

Enriquez was most likely on his way to work when he was killed, according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Supt. Guillermo.

He said the assailants fled toward EDSA after the crime. They both wore helmets.

Police are still investigating the motive for the killing.

Police said this is the second time that a BIR employee was gunned down in Quezon City.

In November last year, BIR-Makati Regional Director Jonas Amora and his driver were ambushed by two motorcycle-riding suspects at the corner of Topside Road and C-5 Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.
