Alert level 2 hoisted over Kanlaon following phreatic explosion

(Eagle News) — An alert level 2 was hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano on Saturday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology did this after a phreatic eruption took place past 9 a.m.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said in a radio interview that while the eruption was not as strong, the public should avoid going near the summit.

He said a 4-kilometer permanent danger zone from the summit should apply under an alert level 2.
