An SM Group statement sent to the media said Sy passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning. “There are no details available as of the moment,” it said. Sy was also the chairman emeritus of SM Prime Holdings Inc., BDO Unibank Inc. and SM Development Corporation, and Highlands Prime Inc. He was also honorary chair of China Banking Corporation.

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte visited on Friday night the wake of Surigao del Sur Gov. Vicente Pimentel Jr. Rep. Johnny Pimentel, the governor’s brother, posted pictures of the President’s visit. The governor died on Tuesday, Dec. 25, a day after he checked out from the hospital. He was 71. His wake is at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque. His remains will be flown to Surigao del Sur on Saturday.
