President Duterte directs gov’t officials to “work on resumption of peace talks” with Communist rebels

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered government officials to “work on the resumption of peace talks” with Communist rebels. Peace Secretary Jesus Dureza said the President gave “clear instructions on the importance of forging a ceasefire agreement to stop mutual attacks and fighting while talks are underway.” Let’s give this another chance, President Duterte reportedly said. Duterte appoints new BOC assistant commissioner

(Eagle News) — The Bureau of Customs has a new assistant commissioner. President Rodrigo Duterte appointed  Vincent Philip Maronilla to the post previously held by Ariel Nepomuceno. Nepomuceno resigned in March. Maronilla and several other Customs officials were implicated in the P6.4-billion shabu shipment mess in May but were cleared by a Department of Justice panel of prosecutors for lack of probable cause.
