5.1-magnitude quake jolts Davao Occidental

(Eagle News)–A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit Davao Occidental on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake struck 88 kilometers southeast of Sarangani at 4:01 p.m. Depth of focus was 48 kilometers. According to PHIVOLCS, an Intensity I was  felt in Kiamba and Alabel in Sarangani. PHIVOLCS said aftershocks were possible.

(Eagle News)—In these pictures released by the Office of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, Japan’s Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Hameda is seen turning over equipment donated by the Japanese government to the national police. Among those turned over were six bomb suits, six ballistic shields, 440 bulletproof vests and 440 ballistic helmets.    

Palace declares Wednesday, Feb. 13, a special non-working holiday in Parañaque

(Eagle News)—-Wednesday, Feb. 13, has been declared a special non-working holiday in Parañaque. In making the declaration in Proclamation No. 665, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, said it was “but fitting and proper that the people of the city..be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate” in the activities marking Parañaque’s cityhood anniversary. The proclamation was signed on Feb. 6.

Nissan downgrades full-year forecast, logs nine-month profit fall

TOKYO, Japan (AFP) — Japanese automaker Nissan, rocked by the arrest of former chairman Carlos Ghosn, on Tuesday revised downward its full-year forecast as nine-month net profit dropped more than 45 percent. (Eagle News)–The Philippine National Police has identified 701 election hotspots, as the campaign period for candidates seeking national posts kicked off on Tuesday, Feb. 12. According to PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, the figure represents 42 percent of the country’s 1,634 cities and municipalities.
